Crafting Your Own Criticism Workshop- Speaking and Writing Equitably about the Arts

This course is for everyone who views the arts- critics, audience members, arts administrators, actors, directors, choreographers, dancers, educators, and students. This workshop examines how we can speak equitably about art, and will benefit everyone!

Everyone's a critic. Literally. In many ways, art criticism has become the ultimate gatekeeper: it judges more often than it enlightens.

It ends the talk, instead of engaging in dialogue. That's why in this interactive course, led by the incredible Jose Solís (learn more about Jose here), founder of the BIPOC Theatre Critics Lab, you will learn how to identify what kind of criticism aligns more with your values, understands your background, wants to establish a connection with you.

You will also learn how to become that critic, or give your students tools to develop their own critical voice.

In order to participate all you need is the desire to do so, neither experience nor educational background is necessary, just bring curiosity and imagination.

This workshop will be recorded if you are unable to attend live.

Sliding scale pricing. Please reflect on your privilege as you select your tier.
