Women's Theatre Festival Conference

Momentum Stage Founder Nicole Perry is offering 3 workshops as part of the Women’s Theatre Festival Virtual Conference.

Ethics of Teaching with(out) Touch Intro. Monday, July 20 at 7pm ET. Examines participants' methods of teaching in order to create an “Ethics and Pedagogy of Touch” as Movement Specialists with acknowledgment of Consent, Student Empowerment, and COVID-19. While this session is geared mainly towards teachers, directors, and choreographers at the high school, university, and professional levels, any participant can benefit from examining their use of touch in communication with (other) performers. NOTE: This is a ticketed event. Please visit our Eventbrite to purchase a ticket. This session will begin at 7:00 pm ET on Monday, July 20th, 2020. Its link to join will only be visible to those registered and signed in to their Sched account.

Laban in Performance Intro. Tuesday, July 21 at 11am ET. Many actors are familiar with the 8 Effort Actions of Laban (punch, float, slash, glide, dab, wring, flick, press), but truly understanding the psychological interpretations that correlate with the movement can bring another level of depth to your character work. By understanding correlating Jungian psychological factors, participants will learn to express how their characters invest mental and/or physical energy.NOTE: This is a ticketed event. Please visit our Eventbrite to purchase a ticket. This session will begin at 11:00 am ET on Tuesday, July 21st, 2020. Its link to join will only be visible to those registered and signed in to their Sched account.

Notation for Movement Specialists. Tuesday, July 28 at 3pm ET. The ease of video recording has meant that documenting dance and/or blocking has taken a technological turn. However, for prompt books and nuance, a written record may be able to record the intent and priorities of the creator in addition to movement. This workshop is an introduction to using Laban Motif Writing and Notation to document movement onstage–great for directors, choreographers, fight/intimacy choreographers, and stage managers! NOTE: This is a ticketed event. Please visit our Eventbrite to purchase a ticket. This session will begin at 3:00 pm ET on Tuesday, July 28th, 2020. Its link to join will only be visible to those registered and signed in to their Sched account.
